Synopsis

What remains when the war is over? “Cherry Juice” explores this question during a wild and unpredictable night in Sarajevo, when Selma, a young Bosnian screenwriter, has an adventurous encounter with a German actor named Niklas.

About the director

Mersiha Husagic was born in 1989 in the former Yugoslavia. In September 1992, she left her home country with her mother because of the war and met her father in Hamburg, where he had previously fled because of political persecution. They first lived here as refugees in a home for asylum seekers, then with a German family under one roof. Even as a child, Mersiha loved films and acted in German film and television productions while still at school. She later attended drama school in Hamburg and has worked as an actress in film and television ever since. In 2015, she enrolled at the University of the Arts in Hamburg under Professor Wim Wenders and made several short films and a documentary before graduating in 2020. “Cherry Juice” is her first feature film.
